By Air - Cardiff is served by its own international airport with regular direct flights from European destinations. Those who prefer to travel via London Heathrow Airport are able to continue their journey to Cardiff by high-speed InterCity train or coach.

The airport is 19km outside Cardiff city centre. Taxis or an airbus service (see below) which runs approximately hourly between 07.00 and 19.00, take visitors to Cardiff city centre.

Airport Transfers Into Cardiff


Air Bus


The Airbus X91, X45 and 345 services operate between the airport and Cardiff City Centre every 30 minutes, Monday to Saturday, between the hours 0653 and 1858. Then every 60 minutes between 1936 and 2236. The X5 service operates hourly on Sundays between 0815 and 2135. Journey time to Cardiff from the airport is approximately 40 minutes. Bus fare is approximately £2.70.

Cardiff Air Taxis, the official taxi operator for the airport, has a taxi desk located within the arrivals hall. Taxis are available upon arrival, or can be booked in advance on +44 (0) 1446 710693. Approximate fare to Cardiff City Centre is £18.

High-speed InterCity trains link most cities with Cardiff. The journey time from London Paddington to Cardiff is under two hours. Regional railways operate modern air-conditioned trains direct to Cardiff from Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Nottingham, Bristol, Southampton, Exeter, Torbay and Portsmouth.

Cardiff is right on the national motorway system. The M4 runs through the north of the city, making London a comfortable drive away. From the Midlands, the North of England and Scotland it is a straightforward drive via the M6, M5 and M50/M4. From the South and South West of England, the approach is by M5 and M4. Access from West Wales is by M4.

National Express provide a nationwide network of express bus services linking major cities and towns in Wales. Many services have been upgraded to Rapide specification, with on-board washrooms and light refreshments available. They operate daily express services linking Wales with the main UK airports and around 1,300 destinations around England, Wales and Scotland.
